Photographing Ourselves

Photographing Ourselves - Minimal Places

This was taken not too far from college, I like how your eye is drawn from the bottom right the up the old steps to the top, with an old lantern style lamp in the center at the top of the image.
It's really good how the walls are painted in a light color as it helps with the light so much, otherwise, you couldn't see up the steps so well.

This was taken right in the center the ally way up to the center space gallery, the light starts to fade out but you can see it again at the end of the tunnel with a mattress on the ground.

The outside of what used to be a nightclub which is now closed down with metal sheeting and ripped fly posters and graffiti on the front of it. I like the composition of this shot and it's quite good how the road is going downhill slightly as you can see the pavement getting lower on the left.

This is one of my favorites, its such a dark image but you're able to see how small the alleyway is, in some ways the light makes you wonder what could be around the corner.

Similar to my first image I noticed that the walls were painted in a light color so you can see right down the pathway, through the grill of the gate in the foreground.

This photograph and the  next two were shot across the river from castle park where they're building new apartments and offices, it was quite a good time of day to shoot because of the light and there was nobody walking around, apart from one lady right in the background in the image below although you can hardly see her.

This was taken at the bottom of Park Street and I lent over the bridge towards the steps going down to the road below, the street light has cast such a good orange light onto the steps and it's worked well against the darkness of the footpath below.

This was shot at multi-story car park and I'm really pleased with the composition and how the light coming through the side gets smaller as it goes into the distance, this definitely gives the impression of minimal as it looks like nothing happens here at all, even though it's a car park

I think this is my favorite shot, it was taken underneath Temple Meads station and because of redevelopment the road is closed.
The strip lights have been added that follow the corners of the tunnel and there's also a faded light that shines down too.

My three final images

Evaluation

This is my final selection of photographs, I think these definitely are minimal places and I'm happy with the different techniques I've used and also the lighting.
It was quite hard waiting for there to nobody working about but it was always worth the wait.
Even though all three of the last images seem quite dark this does help with the theme, all of the shots are looking down paths or alleys and I like how it draws your eye to the picture.
