Website Design and Logos

This is the website of the photographer Chris Johnson, he is actually one of the photographers I have been in contact with to be one of my mentors.
I have taken screenshots to show you how the website is laid out and also how you are able to navigate into the different options on the menu.
I have chosen to look at his website as this is the kind style and layout I would like my own website to have.
This first image is the home page which is what you are brought straight to when entering his website address.

In terms of a logo he has chosen not to use one and he simply has his name, Chris Johnson with Photography written underneath. which for me personally show a clear and simple way of showing your name as opposed to a logo.

This image below shows you the layout when you select the Portrait option on the selection bar across the top. This bar includes:

HOME, PORTRAITS, MAGAZINE COVERS, PRODUCTS, SKATEBOARDING, DOCUMENTARY, ADVERTISING, TESTIMONIALS, BIO & CONTACT, and BLOG

You are able to scroll down through all of the portraits that are shown in a grid style, and by selecting a certain portrait it will display it on full screen, which means you can see the quality of the portrait.

The next screenshot shows what is displayed when you select the Magazine option

It's exactly the same as layout as I have shown you before in the Portrait option and again you are able to select whatever cover you want and it will then show you in full screen, but it also has the information about the photograph, where and when it was shot and the mane of the subject

This is the products option and I think it is such a good way to display and show all of the different products he has shot, using different styles and even locations.
You can see on the bottom right-hand side of the image somebody holding a trainer into the foreground.

This shows exactly what I have told you about before, I have selected the image of the person holding the trainer and here you can see it on the whole screen, you can look at the whole photograph and on this screenshot, the piece of writing below tells you the info about the picture.

These next three images show you how the full screen of the shot looks when you have selected. he shows so many different styles and locations, with the two arrows either side of the shot of the racing bike you can browse through the different shots in a slide show.

It helps that the background is a dark tone which helps to make the chosen image stand out very well.

Here you can see what is shown to you when you choose the blog option in the bar above

There are articles shown that talk about the different shoot's that Chris has done and where he has been and who he has met. To the right-hand side, there is a column that lets you scroll down to the archives of his blog posts.

I think it's a good way of promoting yourself to possible clients as they are able to see work that you have done in the past, and he has an option to even go back as far as 2016.

These are some examples of his advertising which show a lot of Skateboarding products or even riders from different companies

This is one of my favorite options that you can choose, which is a Documentary. The shots are of so many different things, portraits, landscapes, and shots that look like they were taken while he was traveling.

This is the Testimonials option.

This below is from the Bio & Contact option, he begins by letting you know where he is from and goes in to tell you about his career as a photographer and some of the companies that he has produced commercial work for. He finishes off by describing what kind of work he focused around and to have a look at his site.
The way he has written his Bio is so well done as it gives such a good description, it's not really long and he comes across as a very reliable, experienced and a nice person to work with.

Evaluation

Overall after looking at Chris Johnson's website, this has really shown me a great example of how I would like my own site to look. It is really easy to navigate through the site and how everything is laid out it shows his work so well in all the different areas.

Personally, I like the fact that it is done in quite a simple style and layout, but it is straight to the point and you do not lose any interest whilst looking at his work, which is just what you want especially if a client is looking at your work.
